China's Ranking System

I read the Wired's article, Inside China's Vast New Experiment in Social Ranking, and London's Daily Mail article on China's Dystopian Scorecard System

Daily Mails article talk about how that the episode from Black Mirror about dystopian scoring is coming to life in China, and is said to launch in 2020. China has set up systems and camera's to be able to track their citizens every move and action. They will be able to tell who is doing what. There systems include facial recognition, body scanning, and geo-tracking. With a fingerprint they could pull up every bit of history, including medical, educational, and financial.

Wired's article started with how now a days we do everything with our mobile devices, such as paying bills on apps. It then went in to talk about how in China, there is a new system coming to be where you will be scored socially, kind of like you are with your credit score. There is a company called Ant Financial, similar to FICO, that will start the social scoring along with credit scores. These social scores can determine what kind of cars you are eligible for, where you can live, what schools you and your children can go to, etc. A quote from Ant Financial says their program Zhima Credit "will ensure that the bad people in society don’t have a place to go, while good people can move freely and without obstruction.” It states that people will get penalized for saying or posting negative things. Any negative action can cost you big time in your life with this system.

My opinion is that the social scoring system is going to dehumanize everyone, and create a fake society. No one will be able to have a hint of free will. This will cause continuous stress on eveyone to be perfect so that they can survive in life. All real emotion will be wiped, and no one will ever truly be happy. It is able to cause many of mental breakdowns as everyone will be suppressing there true feelings. Social scoring will give no room for bad days or mistakes. Having mistakes constantly follow you because of tracking systems will also create misjudgment and skewed reputations of individuals. I also believe that tracking peoples mistakes gives them no hope or confidence to change. Forcing people to be good is not good.
